PGA TOUR AND USA NETWORK YOUTH CLINICS RESUME IN LOS ANGELES
Comcast Helps Bring Clinics To L.A. Area
Pacific Palisades, CA, Feb. 7, 2003 - The fifth PGA TOUR/USA Youth Golf
Clinics of the 2003 season heads for the hills of Los Angeles preceding
the adjacent to the Nissan Open. This program is the initiative of the
PGA TOUR and USA Network in which 29 clinics spanning coast-to-coast are
scheduled to eventually introduce the game of golf to over 10,000 youths
nationwide in 2003.

TOUR/USA Youth Golf Clinics with 300 multicultural
kids from the Urban Youth Golf Program, along with the Carson
California Parks & Recreation Department will take place at the
at the Dominguez Hills Golf Course and Chester Washington Golf Course in
Los Angeles from Feb. 10-March 14. The clinics include five
weeks of 1 1/2-hour sessions with each participant receiving a golf shirt,
golf balls and hat. Each day, participants will learn and practice the
fundamentals of the game of golf. On Feb. 18, an exhibition at the Chester
Washington will showcase shot-making skills and trick shots by Dennis
Walters, as well as an appearance by Tiger Woods' former coach Rudy
Duran. The final clinic week includes a golf challenge competition,
graduation ceremony, as well as awarding trophies and certificates. Two
youngsters will receive golf scholarships and all participants receive
mini-sets of golf clubs.
The PGA TOUR/USA Youth Golf Clinics are designed to introduce youngsters to golf and
provide them access to the game, facilities, equipment and instruction. Each
clinic is available to children (7-17 years-old) residing within a 30-mile
radius of the clinic locale. This event is coordinated through USA Network,
PGA TOUR and the Multicultural Golf Association of America (MGAA). Comcast
is the local cable affiliate sponsor of the program.
Early round live coverage of the Nissan Open can be seen Thursday and Friday,
Feb. 20-21 (3 PM Live ET / Noon Live PT) on USA Network. Bill Macatee
and Peter Kostis, golf television's longest-running announce team, call the
action from the 18th tower.
The PGA TOUR is a tax-exempt membership organization of professional golfers. More than 120 events are being contested on the three tours in 2003, for approximately $290 million in prize money. In addition to providing competitive opportunities for its membership, TOUR events also generate significant sums of money for charity.
